Southampton Social Aid Group (SSAG) is a co-operative created for the benefit of the people of Southampton. Our Food Club is run by and for the benefit of our community. What is the Food Club? For a weekly fee of £3.50 or £5 one member of a household can become a member of our Food Club. Each member can choose 10 items of shopping a week from our available selection of food and household goods. Items vary week to week and include fresh fruit and vegetables, store cupboard essentials, toiletries and household items. Please note we do not stock refrigerated or frozen items. Following consultation with our Food Club members we have agreed to also offer an option of £5 for 15 items. Ideal for those with larger households. We have three hubs from which The Food Club runs every: Monday between 11:30am and 1.30pm. Woolston & District Trades & Labour Club, 25 Leighton Road, Woolston, SO19 2FS. All members can be involved in the running of the cooperative. SSAG will be shaped by its members and our aim is to be responsive to the needs of our members and the community. SSAG aims to be able to offer a range of services to the community. Our first service is our Food Club. We hope to build on this service according to the changing needs of the community. SSAG is based on the principles of solidarity not charity, participation not just consultation.

The Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership is a not for profit group working with the rail industry to promote train travel and re-use station buildings for community benefit. The Free Shop at Swaythling Railway Station runs every Saturday morning from 1030 - 1230, handing out spare food from supermarkets and private donations to reduce food waste and help people access food without barriers. We do not charge and do not seek referrals or benefits statements, so everyone has the opportunity to take food without criteria on a first come, first served basis. This project builds social cohesion in the Swaythling area and surrounding communities, brings people together, reuses spare rooms at the station, which otherwise would sit empty, promotes the railways in a positive light and reduces the impact of waste on our environment.
