Surplus To Purpose (SToP) is an environmental enterprise which specialise in the interception of surplus food destined for waste. This produce may be past Best Before, suffered accidental damage or surplus to requirements. Trained personnel record, process and quality control all intercepted food, to ensure it is safe for consumption. This food is then redistributed through various activities such as; boxes for families, outside catering & events, Pay As You Feel cafes and into schools. SToP intercepts approximately 1,000 tons per year at its headquarters in Leeds - the equivalent of 2.3 million meals per year. A majority of the produce we intercept is perishable items such as fruit & vegetables, and bakery goods. However, we also intercept frozen meat & fish, chilled dairy items and non perishable items such as dry goods, drinks and confectionary. In 2022 SToP aims to become the U.K.s largest caterer of events using intercepted produce. From weddings, to conferences, birthdays and work lunches, we wish to provide environmental alternatives to mainstream providers of contract catering. Our mission is to Feed Bellies Not Bins, whilst educating people on the inhumane amounts of edible food wasted every year in the U.K. All of our spaces are inclusive, and all the food we intercept is available to all. Meeting Point runs a weekly drop-in for refugees and asylum seekers. Up to 120 adults and 25 children attend this drop-in each week. We provide a range of long and short term support services, including food parcels, a hot meal and refreshments, clothes, computer and internet use, help and advice, conversation Café, English class, children's activities and women's group. During the week we also run additional support groups, which vary throughout the year, and also a Women's Group which meets weekly. Many of our beneficiaries are destitute and surviving on little or no income. We are quite literally a lifeline for many who attend.

We are a local group of volunteers providing the people of North Leeds with all sorts of groups, events or basically whatever they need to help them with life. We require volunteers, helpers, any items that can assist us do what we do. As a charity we run numerous groups for the local community including a stay and play session, fitness classes to name a few. We also do community projects and hold events throughout the year. The surplus will be used at the groups and also as part of the food exchange programme where members of the community use the food and create meals and then pass on their excess to other residents.....it is a unique idea but we find it is well recieved.
