Sainsbury's Prestwick

We collect food donations from supermarkets, churches and individuals throughout South Ayrshire and provide three days emergency food to people in crisis. Food is brought to our warehouse premises where our team of volunteers weigh and sort it into different types of food. Our volunteers then make up boxes of emergency food. Each box contains breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea, coffee, sugar and snacks for 3 days. The boxes are nutritious and we also when available also provided toiletries. The boxes are then delivered to our 6 hubs across South Ayrshire where clients can collect them. We partner with other organisations who meet people on a day to day basis who require our help. They assess the client's situation and where necessary they issue one of our food vouchers to their clients. The client then takes their voucher to their nearest hub and collects their food. The volunteers at our hubs welcome clients and will often signpost them to other agencies where they have disclosed other issues.

At Heathfield Primary School we place learning at the heart of all we do. We strive to create a positive, nurturing ethos, which ensures all pupils feel safe, healthy, active and included. We aim to provide stimulating learning environments to enable pupils to achieve, contribute and succeed. Staff collaborate to ensure children are engaged in a dynamic and relevant curriculum appropriate to their interests and ability in order that they can fulfil their potential and have responsibility for their learning. We are committed to parent engagement and family learning and recognise the importance of the partnership between home and school. At Heathfield Primary we run a free breakfast club each day, which provides our children with the opportunity to have a wholesome breakfast before starting the school day. We therefore use our breakfast club as a venue to offer our surplus collections. While we believe that all our families would benefit from the collections, we also feel that the breakfast club is an ideal environment to target those who would benefit from it the most. Depending on the size of our collections we share on our Facebook page to ensure all food is passed on to families within the school.

Tarbolton food Larder strives to reduce food waste and food poverty by using surplus food to give cooking demonstrations, distribute and give handy tip and recipes to the local community to ensure not a scrap goes to waste. In this current climate it has become apparent that more and more families need access to food for their families. We want to take the stigma off charity for families that don’t want to ask by engaging in our local communities providing a warm friendly service. We already run a charity for children and run many drop in cafe days for people to come and get a free meal. We have a charity van for transport, we have 2 large fridges and 2 large chest freezers for storage We operate from Annbank Community hall where we run lots of community events. We advertise when we are going to be there and have private messages from families in need. Most families contact through the NBCC charity. Our Night before Christmas campaign has been in the press on tv and a motion has just recently been passed through Scottish Parliament recognising our work with children and families. We have partnered up with Ayrshire food hub who provide frozen meals on a Tuesday they are also providing a new freezer. I have emailed Lauren. We have also worked with the Kincaidston food hub and the Ukrainian support.
