We are a non-profit food bank centred around Ferndown and West Moors, in Dorset. Our Team of volunteers provide daily food parcels to families in food poverty around the area. We were originally based around Sainsbury's Ferndown store, but over the years and through Neighbourly we have expanded to accept donations from other companies like, Southern Co-op, Aldi, Lidl, and M&S. That said, anyone wishing to donate to the Food Project can give items in arrangement with us, as log as the items can satisfy our food handling policy and can be distributed immediately, as we have no storage facilities. Our Partner stores allow us to access the non-sellable items for redistribution in the food banks, and our volunteers sort and deliver the food straight to the families in need. This partnership has endured over a decade of co-operation, helping families with disabilities as well as low-income households through many a rough time in their lives, for as long as it takes for them to get back on their feet. Families in need are referred to us through various local organisations, from churches to community help groups and we are careful to identify those in real need. We are a not for profit social supermarket based in West Moors who provide support to over 1600 households in our community. We tackle food insecurity, social isolation and the environmental impact of food waste in our area. We source our products from surplus redistribution companies and charities, we save end of day goods from supermarkets and local businesses; We have an allotment to grow our own produce, promote home growing and accept donated surplus fruit and veg grown locally too. We also purchase products like freezer goods to ensure our service users have a wide selection of food and goods available to them at every visit. We operate on a membership basis to be able to monitor user trends and create a unified community feel for our service users. Our Larder is set up like any other 'shop' ensuring all service users have dignified access to a wide selection of food and household products. We do not pre allocate goods, our members choose what they like and will use which helps minimise further waste. Members visit once per week, there is a £7 visit fee to be paid when accessing Castleman Community Larder. We use this £7 to contribute towards the running costs like rent (£800pcm). We also use this to purchase any food that we cannot source from end of day, local business or in our regular collections. Our members take home UNLIMITED fruit, veg and bread. We promote healthy eating and encourage our members to use vegetables in meals as often as possible. 3 RED ITEMS - Items from the Fridge/Freezer like family size packs of minced beef, fresh meat and cheese, butter etc And 12 YELLOW items which consist of staple foods, tins, jars, cereal, pasta and household / toiletries like toilet roll, cleaning products, nappies etc Our priorities are focused on saving waste in our community and giving all of our service users a friendly, dognified and welcoming environment when they choose to visit us.
