Branching Out Retford - Supported Accommodation for Young People
Retford, UK
Branching Out Retford is supported accommodation and we aim to provide a secure, stable environment for vulnerable 16-21 year olds who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or inappropriately housed. We aim to support people to improve their situation regarding housing, education, employment and in any other areas which they identify. We aim to provide young people with the skills and confidence for future independence. We offer high and intensive levels of support in a variety of areas including education, training, life skills, employment, substance misuse, family mediation, emotional wellbeing, finance, benefits, moving on and many more. When the young people have completed their support package with us and feel they are ready, we will support them to move into more appropriate accommodation or return to live within their family if this is safe and appropriate to do so. Branching Out Retford is staffed 24 hours a day by a variety of support, resettlement and night workers . We regularly review what time staff are available to make sure we are meeting the needs of the young people. Overnight support is provided by night workers who are there to keep the young people and our buildings safe. Each young person accessing the service is allocated a key worker and a person centred support package is put into place. If specialised support can not be provided by support staff the young person will be sign posted / referred to external professionals. There are also many opportunities for the young people get involved in other activities and wider community events. Staff will support and encourage young people to take part as much as they want. Tenants’ Meetings are held monthly and tenants’ representatives are elected to make sure the young people have their say. The young people may decide things like, how the properties are to be decorated, activities e.g. sports, days out, inviting speakers to the project. The young people will also be asked for their suggestions regarding the future direction of the project and these will be included in the project strategy. We rely heavily on donations from financial donations to support activities, food items to promote healthy eating, donations of clean bedding to pots, pans and cutlery. Any donations are welcome which will enable young people to live and lead a safe and healthy lifestyle.
