Bassetlaw Foodbank

Worksop, UK

We work with the community to gather and distribute emergency food parcels to households dealing with food insecurity, increase public awareness of the conditions that lead to food poverty, and establish projects that support people before a food parcel is needed. Providing emergency food parcels is the core of what we do, and we have seen a year-on-year increase since the charity was established. We deliver these to ensure that they are accessible to anyone in need. We also offer a subsidised Fruit & Veg' Box scheme to households on means tested benefits at an affordable price to increase access to healthy food, run a mobile community shop which provides affordable food to rural areas in ‘food deserts’ in Bassetlaw, operate a retail operation to raise funds for the charity and run ‘Grow it, Fix it’, an allotment, orchard and white goods repair project. We also run BFB Hive, a project that includes a café, extending our existing lunch club to offer more sessions, an advice and guidance service with partner agencies such as Citizens Advice, and a laundrette.

YMCA Robin Hood Group - Worksop

Worksop, UK

YMCA Worksop is part of the YMCA Robin Hood Group who deliver essential services for young homeless adults in Nottinghamshire. Our mission, based on Christian values, is to develop the mind, body and spirit of individuals, families and communities, and improve health and well-being for all. We provide supported accommodation for single homeless people who want to stay in a safe place and then move on to independent living. We work with our residents to create a supportive, inclusive and energised community, where they can truly belong, contribute, thrive and achieve their goals. Worksop YMCA provides accommodation to young homeless adults (18-35 years) from the local community, where young people with nowhere else to turn can live in a safe place and call it home. We provide temporary supported accommodation for 44 residents at our main housing scheme on Watson Road and through 6 transitional (move on) homes in the wider community. We would use any surplus food donations to distribute to our own residents only. All food would be stored at our central office and we use this for our residents on low or nil income to provide heatlthy additional provisions.
