small pantry network started in Gloucester to set up pop-up pantries in communities to help where the need is present during the cost of living crisis and beyond the Gloucester pantry network is a stepping stone to setting up pantries and providing supply chains to existing projects. we are based in the church hall on Stroud Rd, Gloucester. We expect to open in October.6th 2023 we have decided that due to the nature of the donations there will be no need to charge for the food. We are looking to identify the community residents requiring help by means of referral process and also from word of mouth for example if a member of staff sees that someone is struggling for food they can phone up the pantry and explain when the person turns up they will then fill in a form with one of the volunteers to say how long they may need food support for and if they need any other signposting in the area that we plan to work from and people will signpost families from local schools et c. We are hoping to build our numbers to around 75 people per week. we also plan to collect some fresh surplus if possible we will also accept social prescribers referrals and also we will assess any people coming in to the pantry by means of need and for what period do they require support. Also hoping to supply mental health drop-in and referral to debt advice via citizens advice for Gloucester. We will also have a close bank for the winter and possibly for other seasons as well as school uniform exchanges. we have 2 freezers which freezer food would be very handy we also plan to use the freezers to maintain stocks of emergency staples such as bread so that we can give out emergency packages in between pickups we will also be running a slow cooker club to provide feasible meals for any further surplus leftover we will also supply dishwasher tablets and washing powder/tablets as well as toiletries and help towards reduction in use of plastic through a refill bottle scheme which we are trialling with a local refill shop. We have a number of families which we have already identified will need help this winter due to unemployment and difficulty keeping to budgets as well as supplying these families with food we will refer them to job clubs in the local area and give help with paperwork. This will make sure that families can build up confidence and feel empowered we also hope to drop off surplus food to the surrounding supported accommodation within the local area. Our opening hours will be 2 till 6 on a Friday with some flexibility for emergencies, we are working very closely with Love Gloucester & st Barnabas church who own the building. Poets Pantry is a resource to combat food poverty in the local community. The rise in the cost of living has hit those who were just about managing and created a situation where people are finding it hard providing food for their families. The Pantry aims to help those people. The neighbourly deliveries are redistributed just after they arrive – they are a free distribution and the time of distribution is 945am-1015am on Thursdays and Fridays.
