We are located in St Johns Church Hall, Ventnor Lane, Portland. The Foodbank is a registered UK charity. The Foodbank was created by Christians Working Together (Churches Together) on Portland and became a Charity on 11th May 2021. If you would like to visit the Foodbank, you may receive a referral from Citizens Advice, CAP Debt Coach, Social Worker, Health Professional or from Christian Leaders on the island. A full list of referrers is available on our website at portlandfoodbank.co.uk. Citizens Advice are usually on site at Portland Foodbank on Tuesday mornings between 9:30 and 11:30am. The Nest was set up to provide support for people in our community, particularly by giving people in need access to healthy and affordable food. We also offer volunteering opportunities to members of our community who are long-term unemployed, or who have suffered serious mental health issues, to help them get back on their feet. We aim to help people facing poverty of resources, identity and relationships. We run a cafe on our Westham site to enable people to meet, make new friends and enjoy good quality meals at an unbelievably good price. Our main aims are tackling hunger within Weymouth, reducing food waste and aiding members of our community in improving their skills and employability.

The Story of Community Share originally known as Dorchester Community Kitchen provided food boxes for those who need them. During the Pandemic We sourced surplus and donated food and redistribute it to those who find themselves in short time financial difficulty, or simply need a little extra help. We focused on reaching Carers and Parents with Children with SEND and those who are falling through the gapes during this current crisis. Dorchester Community Kitchen was already in development as the Corona Virus struck. To meet the needs of the emergency we have quickly developed a community orientated food box service for carers, families supporting those with disabilities and Send children. We also focus on the most vulnerable in our community during these unprecedented times. We also support a number of other community groups at this difficult time. In our first 4 weeks of operation we reached some incredible milestones 468 food boxes Over 1400 individuals benefiting from box contents An amazing volunteer team of 30 and growing 51% of recipients identifying as carers 50 plus food packages to the vulnerable and homeless in Dorchester We then rebranded with a new name and a focus to reaching the community. We changed our named to Community Share. We have created 4 community Larders in and around Dorchester helping people, families struggling with food poverty. Braking down the stigma of food poverty by offering non-referral community larders open various times a week in multiple locations so people can help themselves to food without the stigma of jumping through red tape and feeling ashamed to ask for help. # communityshare Sharing is caring, from sharing your food to your time and skills, we are powered by our volunteers and donations, without them we wouldn't be able to do what we do, we've got big plans for the future and we can't wait to share them with you.
