Surplus food we collect from our Neighbourly providers is re-distributed in the community in several locations of Solihull and surrounding areas. Our good cause is supporting people living in poverty, refugees, and asylum seekers. We provide ongoing support to people in need through a number of initiatives, including free English language classes for refugees and surplus food distribution for people living in poverty, among many others. Our distribution model does not involve and has never involved any charges. ln August 2007, ECE recieved a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of 300,000 members of the IYF (International Youth Fellowship) for our contribution to the UK branch. In September 2008, Esther Community Enterprise was awarded certificates from the Lord Mayor of Croydon, for having carried out 100 hours of volunteering activities. On the 2 June 2011, ECE was awarded with theQueens Award for Voluntary Service, MBE. This is the highest award given to voluntary groups in the United Kingdom, and as such, is equivalent in status to the MBE. This prestigious UK National Honour recognises outstanding voluntary contributions and sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering, with the work of those awarded being judged to be of the highest standard. We aim to meet those who have needs in the local community by redistribution of food and other consumables donated from retailers. ECE makes a worthwhile collective response to the 3 tenets of sustainable development, namely social, economical and environmental needs. ECE forms a consortium with other charities, faith groups, projects and organisations. We have over 70 Project Co-ordinators. They manage and help to distribute the food/groceries and clothing items within the local communities across the UK, on behalf of ECE. We have sustained our social enterprise through the goodwill and hard work of over 400 drivers and countless volunteers, who contribute their time, transportation and finance to this worthy cause. Near sell by date food is collected on a daily basis from a range of supermarkets and other retailers and diverted to those that need it most ECE feeds in excess of 40,000 people per week and this is steadily on the increase as we expand across the UK

Matty’s Place is registered limited company formed to provide self sufficient accommodation for vulnerable groups with a focus on the homeless. Each placement will be supported with additional care and support for the service user to meet their individual needs. Aimed at vulnerable adults aged 18 and over, Matty’s place will actively support and promote community cohesion and well-being through education and training. Matty’s Place plans to offer dynamic, unique and constantly evolving programs and services that will benefit service users in a productive way to empower independent living and social inclusion. Matty’s Place Limited is projecting to have 30 fully furbished properties accommodated by the end of 2020. At present we have ten properties accommodated through alternative housing schemes. A further five are available to be let immediately and access to at least fifteen more by the end of the year has been agreed subject to terms. Matty’s Place has direct links with letting agents and landlords willing to use investment property towards our social housing mission. With access to a large number of private rented properties, Matty’s Place is in a fine position to deliver a much needed service where the demand is increasingly high. Surplus donations from stores such as Aldi and Lidl can prove to be very valuable to us as we are supporting over 120 service users and they are always in need of supplies due to their unfortunate circumstances.
