TK Maxx Hull Kingswood

Blacktoft Beacon District is over 1300 members strong and serves communities from West Hull to Snaith, following the Humber Estuary. Tablers Wood is our campsite and is used by Scout Groups from both in and out of the District. Our Scouting programme provides young people with skills for life and they take part in an exciting programme of activities from kayaking to coding. They develop character skills like resilience, initiative and tenacity; employability skills such as leadership, teamwork and problem solving; and practical skills like cooking and first aid. An essential part of our programme for 6 - 25 year olds is to provide outdoor and adventurous activities with conservation and environmental issues being a main theme throughout this. At Tablers Wood we want to maintain hedgerows around the site, improve access along the public footpath that runs through the middle. We also need to continue maintenance of the bank along the dyke. In the future, we would like to install water collection points on all our buildings so we can recycle it to use for irrigation around the site. We would also like to create a wildlife observation area including a hide to watch animals such as; birds, deer and small mammals and to build nesting places, bug hotels and much more. When young people in and outside Scouting come to visit the site we want to create an outdoor classroom where they can work towards badges such as; Environmental Conservation, Community Impact, World Challenge and other projects. We hope by doing all of this we will be investing in the future of our young people and conserving the environment in and around Tablers Wood.
