Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit

London, UK

Explorers is the 4th section in the scouting family, with members aged from 14 to 18 years. It’s the section in which all your hard work and training through Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts comes together. We travel, we learn new skills, go on adventures big and small, earn awards, and challenge ourselves to be the best people we can be. We have canoed rapids in England, Scotland, Wales and the south of France, gone wild-swimming in the Alps, been mountain biking in the Peak District, and climbed mountains, some literal ones, some metaphorical, and personal. We have even been surfing, sailing, scuba diving, and driven real cars! We meet at 7-9pm every Tuesday at our HQ; 18A Gilesmead, 79 Camberwell Church St, SE5 7LN. The best thing about Explorers is that the programme is decided by the explorers. We do a wide range of activities on Tuesdays, from inter-patrol competitions, practising skills, fun trips, or sharing a tasty dinner. Once or twice a month we meet elsewhere to practise outdoor skills, go to a talk, or do something different. Check out our programme at http://phoenixexplorers.com/programme. While in Explorers you’ll be able to achieve the Explorer badges, and much of our programme runs in line with the Duke of Edinburgh award, so while you work towards your Chief Scout and Queen’s Scout Awards you can also earn your DofE awards: recognised qualifications for your CV and University applications. We do most of our DofE expeditions on the water in our own canoes, a fun alternative to hiking!
