St John Rigby College Canal clean up

We have been involved in several canal cleaning trips whilst participating in a canoeing activity this year and we would like to continue this activity next year too. The section of tow path and canal we focus on is from the Baby Elephant Indian Restaurant at the bottom of Gathurst Road along towards Wigan for approximately 1.5miles. Volunteers will either work together in a canoe to paddle up the canal and collect any floating debris in the canal or is lodged on the far bank of the canal. Those who choose to walk the tow path will be issued with a litter picker grabber and their own bin bag, and the area will be divided into sections in order for optimal coverage of the area. This is a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours in a quiet and peaceful environment whilst completing a worthwhile environmental activity for the benefit of the local community. Weather appropriate clothing is all that is needed and the ability to walk (or willingness to paddle) approximately 1 mile for you to enjoy this fulfilling activity.
