Tees Valley Wildlife Trust is part of the influential UK-wide partnership of 47 Wildlife Trusts. The Trust has worked for more than 30 years to protect wildlife and wild places, and educate, influence and empower people. We manage 17 Nature Reserves and help others to manage their countryside sites. Our work is helping to secure the future of many important habitats and species, which might otherwise be lost. We protect the wildlife where you live. We make our county a better place for local wildlife and people. Our environmental cleanup event, supported by a grant from Neighbourly, will be a fun public event, on the beach, to engage local people, groups and children in understanding sources of plastic pollution on our coasts and the issues for our coastal birds. We will carry out a beach clean, including a treasure hunt with prizes, and we will analyse the litter we find for the Marine Conservation Society. There will be citizen science activities to get involved with, looking for “real” bird food i.e. lugworms and invertebrates, and a Nurdle Hunt to raise awareness of the issue of microplastics. Participants will be able to meet established local beach clean groups, with a view to supporting them in the future. We hope that the audience for this event will go on to contribute to a social media campaign.
