Bower Grove is a foundation, state-funded, day special school for boys and girls aged between 4 and 16 years of age. We aim to provide the young people who attend Bower Grove with a high quality of education, accessible to students of varied abilities and different learning styles, whilst taking into consideration their challenging social, emotional, behavioural and learning needs. The school is organised into primary and senior school areas. The primary aged children are taught by a class teacher in their own classroom for most subjects but may be taught by specialist teachers for PE, ICT and Music. Pupils in the senior school follow a secondary style curriculum and all subjects are taught by specialist teachers. The project to clean up our environment aims to provide our pupils with a sense of community spirit and to learn about the positive impact clean surroundings and sustainability can have not only for their own self-esteem but for that of their peers and the community as whole as they venture into adulthood. in order to achieve this we have an allotment off-site, but within walking distance, an outdoor learning area with a pond on site, and various other areas of the school that the pupils engage in keeping clean, including various recycling of waste products. To keep these facilities running requires funding to maintain them in order for the children to also contribute their time and develop skills to facilitate this.
