We are Teardrops Supporting Your Community an independent not for profit charity supporting the homeless, families and people in need in St Helens, Merseyside on little or no funding relying on the generosity and good nature of businesses, organisations, community groups and the local people of St. Helens. We run a night café three nights a week serving over 200 meals each week and we host a number of drop in days throughout the week supporting the needs of the homeless and vulnerable in our bright and vibrant Hub which has a 5 Star hygiene rated professional kitchen, a games room including an XBOX and Wii consoles, DVD room, hairdressing and beauty area, pool table and karaoke corner. We offer a Multi Agency drop in on a Monday allowing access to various services from housing and benefits to mental and sexual heath teams, smoking cessation, a hairdresser, substance misuse any many more. Check It Out Thursday involves access to health workers to assess height, weight, BMI and blood pressure and the opportunity to check out housing, jobs and benefits and includes employment, interview and key skills support. We also run Voice on the Streets a topic lead discussion group working to improve pathways and facilities within various services to breakdown barriers and address the stigma of homelessness. Arts and Crafts are Fridays delight and a whole host of items are created and upcycled using various donated materials and displayed around our vibrant Hub Alongside these groups we run a 5 week workshop for schools around homelessness. Based around positive and creative arts activities, baking cakes, making survival packs and learning about the prevention of homelessness, addressing the barriers and stigmas around it and looking at ways to break them down. We also run adult courses and workshops dealing in positivity, self esteem, anger management and resilience. We support 4 schools in deprived areas within St Helens with food every month after identifying how higher rates of child poverty, low income and unemployment were impacting on the schools. We offer crisis intervention and one to one support, liaison and resettlement support incorporating a furniture scheme in partnership with Willowbrook Hospice another local charity whereby we provide furniture and household items to clients moving into their new home. Our services are growing all the time and we are helping more and more people everyday and we know that by working together we can all make a difference to lives of those most vulnerable in our community.
