Beatlie School has pupils from 3-18 with severe and complex disabilities. The majority of pupils in the school have profound needs requiring the curriculum to be adapted to ensure meaningful and appropriate experiences for all. In terms of Eco, our focus has been on heightening the awareness of those in the school community and beyond to ensure that eco and learning for sustainability is embedded in all aspects of school life including being reflected in school planning. Pupils take part in a variety of eco related activities with 1:1 support and for many it is at an experiential level. As part of our commitment to our Eco Schools action plan and our school’s Sustainable Development Goals: 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. We want to continue to raise awareness of the effect of litter on marine life. We want to: To raise awareness of the effect of litter on marine life. To increase student practical skills in preventing and managing litter. To allow collaboration with schools to promote Education for Sustainable Development. To influence others by communicating with them through multimedia and other channels. Our Eco committee will be creating a new Litter Eco Code (reflecting litter objectives – reduction of use of plastics) The whole school will be involved in creating campaign information to share with the wider community through leaflets, posters and blogs.
