Cork ARC is a voluntary organisation and registered charity and provides a safe haven for cancer patients and their families. The core of our support is provided through our drop in and telephone service where people can call without an appointment and chat with one of our trained volunteers. Our other supports are by appointment and include a wide range of complementary therapies including one to one services like counselling / psychotherapy, therapeutic massage, reflexology, acupuncture, art therapy, and information on social welfare and benefit entitlements, as well as groups based on exercise, health and well-being such as yoga, t’ai chi, pilates, get active after cancer for men, mindfulness, hour of calm, MBSR adapted for people with an advanced cancer diagnosis, moving on in wellness after a breast cancer diagnosis and art therapy as well as information and education workshops on diet and cancer, bereavement, lymphoedema and managing hormone therapies. We also offer the CLIMB® Programme for children who have a significant adult with a cancer diagnosis. Our services are all free of charge, based entirely on clinical need, on an equitable, one tier basis. In 2019, we received over 8,400 visits across our our centres in Cork city and West Cork. We receive on average 6% of our funding from the government so we rely entirely on fundraising initiatives to keep offering our services to cancer patients and their loved ones when they need it most.
