The Chatterbox Project

Manchester, UK

Chatterbox offers a programme of activities and services designed to bring people together, provide practical help and support, and raise the confidence and aspirations of people living in poverty. From our base in the heart of north Manchester, we run a weekly food bank, offer peer support, adult education, recreational classes, children's clubs and more. We are run by a small but dedicated team of local people who understand the needs of the community, and believe that every person deserves happiness and success, whatever their circumstances. To this end, we offer a programme of courses and volunteering opportunities designed to show people what they can achieve and raise their self-worth. We rely heavily on donations from generous people in the community. Every donation is used to support a person or family in need. At present, we have over 120 families registered with our food bank, and we do everything in our power to ensure every individual leaves Chatterbox not only with food, but with a sense that they have been treated with dignity, and given a chance to speak with people who truly respect and understand them. Chatterbox is a community charity in the purest sense. We do not judge, and would never turn away a person in need. We are here for you.

Royal Voluntary Service Lunch Clubs

Manchester, UK

Royal Voluntary Service wants to help create a society where everyone feels valued and involved whatever their age. We are one of the largest volunteer organisations in the country. Our 35,000 volunteers help older people stay active, independent and able to continue to contribute to society. They do this by providing practical and emotional help where and when it’s needed. Lunch clubs typically might meet once a month. The meal is just one part of the lunchtime experience. It's a social occasion as much as it is a nutritional one. Royal Voluntary Service encourages healthy eating. For those not used to cooking for themselves, typically men who have lost their wives, we teach one pot cooking, a nutritional solution that will provide a healthy meal for successive days.
