Claremont and Weaste Good Friends
Salford, UK
Claremont and Weaste Good Friends began with a realisation that there were a lot of events for children and young people in the area, but relatively few for older members of the community. Weekends can be especially lonely for some members of our friendly group. We run an arts club where we meet to knit, do crochet, make cards or draw and paint together. We also learn how to use tablets and PC's and use the internet for safe shopping and connecting with family and friends. These are all great ways to make good friends and prevent social isolation. We're still in the early days of our group and we have lots of exciting plans for the future. We've got strong links with our local church and The Vine Cafe, which is a fantastic charity-run cafe open to the whole community. Here, we are planning to organise board game evenings and quizzes. We recently organised a trip to Blackpool to see the lights with accessible transport and a fish and chip supper on the beach! We plan to do many more trips like this, getting our members out and about for some fresh air and friendship.
