The Stroke Project

London, UK

The Stroke Project supports and empowers people affected by a stroke and their families. We make sure local community members are fully informed about strokes, support people through concerns, help improve physical and mental health and improve social inclusion through outreach, support groups and exercise classes. Through our outreach service, we give out information, advice and support on life after stroke, outcome-based support planning and practical assistance. Our support groups facilitate weekly meetings for stroke survivors in a safe environment with physical, social, ‘brain stimulating’ and fun activities. ‘Stroke Specialist’ Exercise Classes exercise the weaker side, gain muscle strength and improve/maintain physical health with a qualified exercise and fitness ‘stroke specialist’. Meanwhile, our Slow Pace Walking Group is a chance to practice walking with other stroke survivors in our slow pace weekly walking group from May to September. We also work hard towards preventing stroke and other vascular diseases through our stroke awareness workshops. The more people know about stroke and how to spot or prevent their onset, the fewer stroke victims there will be in our local community and so we are dedicated to spreading the word and raising the profile of what we do. The Stroke Project is open Mondays to Fridays and all services that we provide are completely free of charge to make this support available to all. We support around 100 new stroke survivors every year and around 80 stroke survivors on a weekly basis through support groups in Hackney. We welcome volunteer helpers to come along and get involved in our awareness raising activities so please do get in touch and share our project page as far and wide as you can!
