Spark (Formerly the Craigshill Good Neighbour Network)
Livingston, UK
Spark creates social and volunteering opportunities for socially-isolated and vulnerable people in our community. We run many engaging social groups including Pins and Needles, Gentle Exercise Lunch Club, Singing For Health, Carpet Bowls, Craft Group and a Men's Group. We also organise events like Discos for the young at heart, pantos, music shows and community events. Some of our creative community projects have featured in the Luminate Festival each year. These have included our production of film poems, an illuminated night walk, intergenerational graffiti project and a 50+ Club Nite featuring our own 50+ DJs who learned their mixing skills from a professional DJ. We are also involved with a local Community Garden and have host a veteran Friendly Forces group. We are about to launch a Community Shop selling gifts made by our volunteers. We also share food donations to those who can make good use of the. Through our empowering opportunities, we enable people to meet, share ideas, skills and interests and learn some new ones. Our volunteer recruitment focuses on encouraging those who might not traditionally regard themselves as potential volunteers to get involved and perhaps feel less isolated, more confident and for some more ready for the job market or education. Craigshill is listed in the top 5% of areas of deprivation in Scotland in the latest SMID report. We aim to make a positive impact to this figure through the opportunities we provide including paid employment to the area. Please come along and volunteer with us!
