The Leytonstone Community Fridge is a Transition Leytonstone project, working in partnership with The Community Fridge Network. We are working to reduce food waste at a local level by collecting food donations from charities, food businesses and individuals, making the food available to the public without discrimination, The Fridge, which is situated outside the Leytonstone Methodist Church, is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 12 noon until the food runs out. It gets very busy, especially during the first half hour, and is manned entirely by volunteers. We need a steady stream of new stall volunteers and driver volunteers, as people do have other things in their lives! That said, we are a happy community of food waste warriors, who love nothing better than saving food from landfill and composting. A very recent 3-monthly audit shows that we saved two and a half tonnes from landfill between February and April 2019. We are currently fundraising for solar panels to power our 2nd backup fridge and a freezer in our food storage garage.

3Food4U is an award-winning, volunteer-led charity providing free groceries, essential items, clothing, and household goods to anyone in need — with no assessment, referral, or questions asked. Founded to reduce poverty and food waste, 3Food4U supports individuals and families facing hardship while promoting dignity and respect. Beyond food support, it offers community services including education, health and wellbeing classes, holiday clubs, and employment skills workshops. After School Provision for parents on low income. We look after 60-70 kids after school. We are also a Community Centre and provide free art and crafts group for the elderly and free sports activities for adults with learning difficulties. The Dockland Settlements has been helping deprived communities since 1894 when Malvern College school in Worcestershire started a school mission, in Canning Town in London’s East End, for the purpose of bringing welfare and recreation to the youth of the dock area slums, who were mostly unemployed and extremely poverty-stricken.
