Lidl Cardiff Cowbridge Rd

Our group was set up in 2010 by a group of mums who wanted to do more for our kids on our estate. We do a range of events throughout the year and trips. We try to raise funds through our events but as most of us are on low incomes this isn't easy. We have lots of families on our estate being affected by the switch over to Universal Credit so they will be very glad of help with donated food. We can also use the donated food to promote health eating to families and teach people how to cook. One of our volunteers dawn trained as a cook so she is happy to lead on this, We work closely with Wales & West Housing, ACE (Action for Caerau & Ely) and the Hub.

The food bank operates from a classroom at the rear of the building with direct access from St Fagans Road. There are signs posted around the building and inside the cafe area as well as on the Grangetown, Cardiff Community News and Events Facebook groups 19k members. Cardiff South Food Hub are reaching out to other organisations across Cardiff and organising events for training and support bringing together food workers for support.

We are a school in Caerau/Ely who are in a deprived area of the city. Half of our pupils are entitled to free school meals. I believe we can help provide for our families using whatever we have been donated. Most of our families are struggling at the moment and we can make a huge difference in their lives. We support our pupils as much as we can by giving them advice and signpost them to the correct support services. In the future we are hoping to have a foodshare type of container where we can assist our families further. Our families our are also very accomadating to new ideas which I think would also benefit them if there was different ingredients I am sure they could swap recipes etc!
