Carnwath Primary School and Nursery Class
Lanark, UK
Our school has a nursery class and 6 primary classes. We currently have 28% of our children living in SIMD 1&2 and 24% in receipt of Free School Meals. However, we are becoming more aware of the fact that these are not necessarily the most accurate measures of what families are living in poverty. We are concerned about the rising cost of living and the impact we will see during the winter when energy costs are increased again. There is a local foodbank, but it is not in Carnwath and therefore makes it difficult for our families to access. We have an established 'sharing shed' within the school that we will keep stocked with basic food and household items. The idea would be that parents and other members of the community can visit the shed to donate or to take what they need. We are keen to facilitate a real opportunity for our community to support everyone in it as and when the support is required. We work closely with the local Community Council to support everyone that needs it in Carnwath.
