Torbain Primary School

Kirkcaldy, UK

Torbain is presently the largest primary school in Kirkcaldy and one of the largest in Fife. The school is non-denominational and caters for pupils from 3 to 12 years of age. Torbain School is a place of learning where the needs of individual pupils are recognised and everyone is valued. Our goal is to offer children the opportunity to become responsible citizens, successful learners, effective contributors and confident individuals. We have a non profit Breakfast Club was set up several years ago in consultation with pupils as an enterprise project and has been running weekly on Friday mornings ever since, catering for both our nursery and primary pupils & families. A new group of Primary 6 pupils take over the responsibility for the breakfast club each new academic year. By running the breakfast club pupils are learning skills for life and skills for work, which we believe is crucial in preparing them for the world of work. Pupils are responsible for all aspects of our breakfast club, from planning new healthy options and learning basic cooking skills, to advertising and selling their products. We also believe in the importance of pupils having a healthy and nutritious breakfast and our breakfast club aims to provide this. Through this project, we are looking for donations of healthy ingredients to be able to continue offering pupils the opportunity to create and enjoy the benefits of a healthy breakfast.
