Lidl Thurso

We carry out activities that benefit the local community. We currently offer a food provision at our children and young people sessions in the local village hall (Reay Hall). The children and Young people attend the after school club and the youth club where they enjoy many activities like arts and crafts, nerf wars, sports and somewhere to come and socialise with their peers. Our sharing shed which is located within Reay at the corner of The Terrace allows free access to food items along with many other items such as books, toiletries etc but also allows the community to contribute to the shed any items that they won't make any use of. We also provide 'happy hampers' that we take requests from members of the community. These can be from the person themselves or from family/friends of the individual. Everyone is welcome to use our facilities. Due to the rurality of Reay, these sessions, the sharing facility and the hampers provide a much needed service and is very well received by the community. All food is distributed completely free of charge.

Ormlie Community Association Ltd currently run services for people of all ages who live in the local community and also the town of Thurso. We run projects in Adult Activities: IT Learning Sessions, IT Drop In Sessions, IT Access 5 Days per week, Employability Sessions, Budgeting Sessions, Hobby Sessions in Craft, IT, Keep Fit, Outings. We run projects in Children And Families: Young Mums Groups and Creches, Messy Play Sessions, Fun Young & Involved Sessions and Teen Scene Sessions, one to one sessions when needed.

Thurso Community Development Trust formed in January 2018 with the purpose of making Thurso a better place to live, work and visit for all through community-led sustainable development. We adopted legal status as a SCIO in January 2019 with the charitable objective of “The advancement of community development principally within the Community” Our community is defined constitutionally via postcode range and encapsulates the community of Thurso within the boundary of the primary school catchment area of Thurso. The vision of Thurso Community Development Trust for Thurso, is for our place to be celebrated as a beautiful community connected, active and ambitious place with a strong social purpose and a spirit of wellbeing. Where all members and sections of the community are encouraged to think big and contribute to active involvement in local decision making. An ambitious, creative, healthy, active, integrated, empowered and environmentally sustainable place with a thriving local economy and community facilities which create an extraordinary and secure legacy for future generations.
