Here at the Pulteney centre we are committed to helping our immediate community in times of need. We strive to make ourselves accessible for all assistance - benefit advice , groups for all ages, childcare and we have a sharing food, clothing , toy etc area. We are based in centre of deprived area of Wick . Our new venture is to make our café a community affordable café delivered by volunteers. We also are due to launch a community meal each night free to anyone . We hope that this will allow people to come together in a social setting, have a hot meal helping with social inclusion for anyone who may need to readjust being in company after covid and also help them financially where they receive a hot free meal in the warmth of the centre saving them fuel costs.

To promote the benefit of young carers of caithness and its environs and to provide recreational facilities, or organise recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. in furtherance thereof but not otherwise, the organisation shall seek: to build a network of support for young carers in caithness by awareness of existence of young carers and their needs. to promote the wellbeing of young carers by providing opportunities to raise confidence, self-esteem and to help identify the value of their role. to work with statutory and voluntary agencies to support and encourage young carer’s educational achievements and to help them access normal childhood activities. to provide opportunities for respite from their caring role.

Home-Start volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. We provide non-judgmental practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope. Our service is bespoke to each family we support: some may need emotional support, some may need practical support, some may come to sessions to have bonding time with their baby or splash in puddles with their children! Our services are free for all our families - we really try to remove barriers where we can. When families attend our service they can access food sharing from our community, our community kitchen and get involved in cooking lunch. We hope that we will be able to collect food from Fareshare as well as Neighbourly in future but we are currently working with other local community groups who have excess food shared with them and our local Foodbank. We operate from our new building in Wick - see our uploaded pictures! Our office and groups runs in Wick but we also hire buildings in Thurso and wider in the community to run groups and fun days from including Tesco Community Room, Scrabster Yacht Club, Thurso Youth Club and utilise amazing local venues such as the community gardens and play parks. Our families are referred by their Midwives, Health Visiitors, GPs and other professionals - people can also self refer to our home-visiting service or turn up for a warm welcome at any group or fun day.
