ICSS is a small, grassroots, 100% volunteer-run registered charity operating since 2004. We are a passionate group of volunteers helping children from vulnerable groups, such as refugees and children affected by domestic violence in East London, achieve their full potential through education, and in time, they can understand the value of giving back to society. We also operate a food bank serving referred families, providing food and other essentials.

We are an extension of Liverpool Zero Waste Community CIC - starting in Redbridge, IG6. We have the same aims - saving surplus food from landfill while building community. We will be redistributing surplus food from local venues such as our local children's centre. What premises does your project operate from? - We deliver to local families straight from pick ups. - Hainault Children’s Centre. - Registered with Redbridge EHO. · How do you identify service users and their needs? - We are about normalising using surplus food in order to remove any potential stigma that may come with attending a food bank or a food pantry. - Young parents attending the children’s centre can access our food. · Are there any other services provided by your organisation other than food support? - Not yet but this is something we are looking into, especially with our links to the children’s centre. · Is there a charge for the service(s) provided by your organisation? - No. · Do you currently collect surplus food from any other retailers? - Co Op (Caboodle) - Tesco and Waitrose (Fareshare) - ad hoc Sodexo Live. · Has there been local press or similar that demonstrates your organisation's work in the local community? - Not yet. · Would it be possible to provide photographs of work that your organisation does in the local community? "We serve between 250 and 300 meals each day but this can be as many as 350 on the coldest days in winter. The charity's mission is to provide a caring and safe environment for the poor, the marginalised and those who suffer from isolation or are in any kind of physical or emotional need in our community. The charity is financed by annual funding from The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, other small grant-giving trusts, local businesses, churches and schools and private benefactors. Additional finance is provided by fundraising events organised by our board of trustees, staff and wonderful volunteers. The ongoing need for the advice support and hope offered by Acton Homeless Concern is a sad indictment of the continuing high levels of homelessness and poverty in London in 2017.
