Moorland Luncheon Club

Cardiff, UK

The Moorland Star aims to make a difference to the community by providing a hot lunch. The food we provides promotes a healthier lifestyle for our users benefiting many people who could not otherwise afford a daily cooked meal. We provide a nutritional balanced meal Mon, wed & Fri day to people over the age of 50 ( our average age is 65-100 years) in our community and to offer support and care to our attendees. We work in partnership with the local authority, and local businesses in the area. We have had to close our building due to Covid 19 virus, are unable to serve lunch to our pensioners. However we are now operating a mobile lunch service, a 2 course hot meal, along with extra produce from neighbourly pick ups from M&S. We are also providing emotional support, daily phone contact, quizzes, word search, & even a raffle... The current situation will exacerbate the isolation and loneliness already experienced by the majority of our users, we are determined to keep this project going for as long as we need to. Moorland Star is so much more than a lunch club, it is a vibrant, safe place where people can come, socialise, interact with the wide range of activities that we offer, meet new friends & rekindle old ones.
