Brixton Soup Kitchen is a community space for homeless people or people in desperate need. The Soup Kitchen provides food, drink and companionship in a warm and friendly environment on a weekly basis. About Us... We have served over 345,000 meals either eaten on site or distributed during food drop offs and outreach sessions. This could not have been possible without the donations and support from local community members as well as local businesses. We organise for trained professionals to deliver one to one consultation sessions with our clients, helping to re-house people, assisting people to claim benefits they rightfully deserve as well as back to work training. Brixton Soup Kitchen is for the homeless and other members of the community who fall below the poverty line. Since starting the Brixton Soup Kitchen, we have received food donations from Pret A Manager, Greggs, Nandos, Satay Brixton, Marks and Spencer. We now work with Iceland, Waitrose, Sainsburys depots. We have had media support from The Voice Newspaper, Channel 4 and The South London Press who awarded us with the 'Our Hero's Award' in April 2013. The word about the good work at Brixton Soup Kitchen has been spreading and we welcome approximately 45 visitors per day, 5 days a week. We engage with over 30 homeless people every day from in and around London. Moving Forward... Our soup kitchen is now is working towards becoming a recognised support centre for the community as a whole. We hope to add more facilities to the already popular centre including job searching support, advice on housing and benefits and a night shelter for those in dire need. However in order to achieve this, a lot of support will be needed. We still need to do more, and your support will help us reach out to more homeless people with information and food packs that will provide a week's worth of food at a time. In particular, we need help funding a van so that we can pick up more food.

Wild in the City is a community organisation working to increase people's well-being by enabling urban residents to rediscover and connect with nature. London has beautiful pockets of woodland, specifically oak woodland in South London, yet many people don't know it's there. We are creating a community of people gathering together in nature to experience the benefits that come with spending time in the outdoors. Living and working in a busy urban environment, people can often find their daily lives busy and stressful. Spending time in nature has been founds to reduce stress, depression and anxiety, induce meditative feelings and improve mood and memory. From parks and woods, we create experiences that teach traditional techniques, such as bush-craft and navigating skills, which help people to feel closer to their ancestral past as well as to their present. We create experiences that encourage community members of all ages and backgrounds to immerse themselves in local green spaces. For example, our Into The Wild programme empowers 16-25 year olds to increase their personal development through learning practical woodland skills and therapeutic reflection. We have big plans for the future: introducing an exciting new project that will encourage office workers to spend time working outdoors and a Natural Health Service helping people to improve their physical and emotional health through physical activity in beautiful outdoor spaces. We're always looking for volunteers to help with our projects and activities - from building sustainable outdoor furniture that 'leaves no trace' to helping us to promote our fantastic workshops and opportunities.
