Devon and Cornwall Food Action is a Registered Charity, striving to eradicate food poverty in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall. The Charity is run entirely by a brilliant volunteer workforce and the Charity has been providing food provision to families in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall for the past 10 years struggling financially and many that are in financial poverty. During this last year, we have seen a significant rise in the number of clients that are in urgent need of our service, sadly as a result of Covid 19 Pandemic. Our aim as a Charity is to redistribute surplus food and non-food products which are collected and delivered by donors across Devon and Cornwall. The Charity has identified a number of services, community organisations and groups, and through their various means-testing schemes the products are distributed to those that have been identified as being in desperate need to feed themselves and their families. We also work closely with professionals and accept referrals from statutory agencies and our historical service provision. Our Challenges are obtaining grants for our services to enable us to help those in desperate need and financial difficulties and unable to purchase food. Join our cause and do what you can to reduce food waste. And remember, spare food is shared food!

We run ‘pain cafes’ in the local area, a place for those struggling with chronic pain to come together, meet new people and learn new skills. We currently have cafes in Plympton, Plymstock, Ivybridge and several venues in Plymouth. We operate from Community Hubs. Participants may self refer, having recognised that there is limited help available locally for those with chronic pain or may be referred by local Social Prescribers or Wellbeing Hubs. We want people to take back ownership of their pain condition, reduce their pain levels and start enjoying life again. . The cafes are free at point of access to all participants. Donations of food received locally are given out as refreshments at the pain cafes and any excess is donated free to the local community.

A community fridge is where people can share and access fresh produce and surplus food, this is the food that supermarkets would otherwise go to landfill. In the UK a staggering 9.5 million tons of food is wasted every year. You can be part of the change. We rescue good quality, surplus food, free of charge from local food retailers, producers, growers, restaurants and households. We are proud to work with some fantastic partners who play a vital role in supporting the sharing of food, and we're keen to develop more local connections with food growers, manufacturers and retailers who, by sharing quality excess food, not only reduce wasted food and disposal costs, but directly supports our local community and those dealing with food insecurity.
