Devon and Cornwall Food Action is a Registered Charity, striving to eradicate food poverty in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall. The Charity is run entirely by a brilliant volunteer workforce and the Charity has been providing food provision to families in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall for the past 10 years struggling financially and many that are in financial poverty. During this last year, we have seen a significant rise in the number of clients that are in urgent need of our service, sadly as a result of Covid 19 Pandemic. Our aim as a Charity is to redistribute surplus food and non-food products which are collected and delivered by donors across Devon and Cornwall. The Charity has identified a number of services, community organisations and groups, and through their various means-testing schemes the products are distributed to those that have been identified as being in desperate need to feed themselves and their families. We also work closely with professionals and accept referrals from statutory agencies and our historical service provision. Our Challenges are obtaining grants for our services to enable us to help those in desperate need and financial difficulties and unable to purchase food. Foodsave Honiton is a is community food parcel service and community fridge covering Honiton and the surrounding areas in East Devon. We work to ensure no useable food is put to waste within our local community, ensuring that those around us receive high-quality, free food without the stigma of referrals, quotas or financial questionnaires. Since opening in November 2020, we have grown to support approximately 300 households across the town every week. We operate as a branch of Foodsave CIC, a not-for-profit food redistribution service operating community food parcel services, community larders and community fridges and freezers across the South West. Foodsave is one of the largest redistributors of surplus food outside of major cities in the South West, facilitating communities to create food waste reduction schemes tailored to their communities. The Pioneer Project CIC is a community interest company based in Barne Barton, Plymouth, working alongside local children, young people and families to build emotional safety, connection and opportunity. We’re rooted in the neighbourhood our staff and volunteers are local or have lived experience of the area and we take a trauma‑informed, practical approach that meets people where they are, with dignity and warmth. We run welcoming, low‑cost and free community activities that reduce isolation and strengthen relationships. This includes our Community Café and Compassion Café, a Food Larder, Forest School sessions for children (including specialist support), community cinema, cooking sessions for parents and children, and community fundays that bring hundreds of local families together. We also support adults through community-based groups and activities that help people reconnect, build confidence and feel part of something positive. We help people who are feeling the pressure of rising costs, loneliness, bereavement, poor mental health, and the ongoing impact of trauma. Many of the families we support are juggling multiple challenges, and what often makes the biggest difference is consistent, friendly support and a place they can rely on week after week. The support we need most is surplus food and essential household items to help keep our café and food larder running, plus volunteers who can give a few hours regularly (or occasionally) to help with food sorting, café support, setting up sessions, and practical tasks. We’re also keen to hear from volunteers with skills in fundraising, marketing, admin, who can help us grow sustainably and care for our community spaces.
