How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, Lidl has donated surplus food, money and products, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

Northern Devon Foodbank - Ilfracombe Distribution Centre

Ilfracombe, UK

We are one of the many foodbanks supporting people in crisis. We accept food and financial donations in order to provide the service. Our Distribution Centres are staffed by many volunteers. We have seven centres in the Northern Devon Foodbank; together covering a rural area of over 800 square miles. We service the whole of Torridge and North Devon Districts including the areas of Barnstaple, Bideford, Braunton, Hartland, Holsworthy, Ilfracombe, Lynton, South Molton, Torrington, and the surrounding villages. Quite a logistical feat! In 2020 we distributed over 125 tonnes of food supporting nearly 12,000 people (4,500 of those were children). That support extends to more than just food; we are dedicated to tackling the underlying causes of crisis not just applying a 'sticking plaster' to the problem. All of our services are aimed at moving people out of crisis and into a place of self-sufficiency. Our customers are normally referred to us by frontline agencies who commit to our principles of ending UK hunger by ensuring that people can care for themselves. Having over 400 referrers helps to ensure that people are getting the support they need in all walks of life. We are also proactive in educating people in food use and nutrition. Our ultimate aim is to see a society where foodbanks are no longer necessary and we will do everything in our power to achieve that. In Ilfracombe we use 'waste' food to provide free refreshments and and substantial meals. The meals are offered to everyone with a request that they contribute what they can. As far as possible, we cook with waste food donated by local supermarkets and supplement with with locally bought supplies. The project reduces waste, gives local people an opportunity to help others and treats those in need with a sense of worth.

Inspire South West

Barnstaple, UK

Inspire South West is driven by a belief in the potential of every individual. We are passionate about inspiring and empowering young people and families to live full and enriching lives. We believe that:- *Young people thrive, given the right opportunity and skills *Families want to succeed and want the best for their children *There are always strengths that can be built on and nurtured *Families grow and change, given the right support Inspire South West specialises in working with young people and families to achieve lasting change. We reframe their circumstances, identify and develop transferrable skills and build resilience. Young people and their families are subsequently more informed and equipped to overcome barriers to change and work towards achievable goals. We work through a strengths-based approach which shifts the focus from the negative to the positive and, in so doing, anchors new patterns of insight and behaviour. We build the team around the young person and their family, working with schools and other agencies to raise aspirations and attainment and improve well-being. Key to our success is helping young people identify what they want to achieve long term. Change begins when young people can see why this is relevant to their hopes and dreams. We help them to think about the first steps they need to take and how others can help them achieve their goals. We then act as a bridge between the young person, their parents, schools and others. We help everyone to gain insight into the young person’s context and reality and then chart a course where success drives change. By motivating and inspiring young people to make that change, they can experience reward and recognition that encourages them to overcome negatives cycles of behaviour.
