Institute Of Christ The King
Preston, UK
'Veritatem facientes in Charitate' - 'Truth in Charity' The motto of The Institute of Christ the King is very simple and very prominent; in three simple words, the Institute is very much described and the work of which the Institute does is emphasised. As an Institute of the Roman Catholic Church, we very much focus our work on charity and the importance of being charitable in the world of today, where so much poverty, homelessness and loneliness exists. As Saint Augustine said, "Charity is the root of all good works!" We our based in the centre of Preston at the Shrine Church of Saint Walburge, which in fact has the third tallest Church spire in the United Kingdom, therefore we are very noticeable from both near and far and everyday we experience poverty on our doorstep, with both the homeless and families who simply cannot afford to eat. Of course we do our upmost best to help as many people as we can and therefore we provide simple groceries such as tinned food and biscuits, which may only be enough just to tie families over for even 24 hours. But like most people, finances are very difficult and we also have great difficulty and therefore struggle to help everyone but as Saint Teresa of Calcutta said "If you cannot feed a hundred people, then just feed one." But of course, the more persons and families we are able to help and support, the better!
