City Harvest London

London, UK

While thousands of Londoners go hungry each day, safe, healthy and usable food is being disposed of as waste. City Harvest collects this nutritious surplus food from all segments of the food industry including restaurants, grocers, manufacturers, wholesalers, hotels and caterers. WHO DO WE DELIVER TO? We help vulnerable people throughout London. City Harvest regularly delivers high quality, nourishing food to organisations that provide meals to vulnerable people including homeless shelters, soup kitchens, centres for veterans, and organisations that assist people with alcohol or drug addictions. WHAT IMPACT DO WE MAKE? We rescue almost two tons of food weekly. This food helps organisations serve thousands of healthy meals each week and reduce their annual grocer bills, freeing up funds that can be reinvested in other vital support services. Some of the food we rescue is diverted from going to landfill where it would release gases toxic to the environment. HOW DO FOOD DONORS BENEFIT? We rescue food in a safe, easy, reliable way. We make it simple for food donors to get their nutritious food to desperate people and reduce their waste collection costs. Customers prefer to patronise sustainable restaurants and employees experience a huge morale boost from giving to those in need. Food donors appear daily on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds. The Sustainable Restaurant Association encourages food donations to City Harvest. With one new van we'll be able to deliver 135 tons of food in one year. This translates to 270,000 meals to people in need.

Hestia Housing and Support

London, UK

At Hestia we support adults and children in times of crisis. We deliver services across London and the surrounding regions, as well as campaign and advocate nationally on the issues that affect the people we work with. Last year we supported over 19,000 men, women and children. This includes victims of modern slavery, women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, young care leavers and older people. From giving someone a home, to helping them to get the right mental health support, we support people at the moment of crisis and enable them to build a life beyond a crisis. We are supported by nearly 950 volunteers across London who provide specialist skills such as art therapy, yoga, IT, gardening and cooking, as well as befriending and fundraising. We are proud to be the home of UK SAYS NO MORE, bringing together a diverse coalition of individuals, charities, businesses and public sector organisations to campaign for an end to domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Sands End Youth Club, Food Ology Cooking Project (FOCP)

London, UK

(FOCP) Be healthy: The project aims to give young people a healthy alternative to eating and the skills to do so easily. Stay safe: Being a project that will run in the evening time it gives young people an opportunity to engage in an accredited project that will potentially keep them of the ‘streets’ and out of harm’s way of trouble. Enjoy and achieve: Even though the programme is a course that we encourage the young people to take seriously it is still a very important element for them to have fun. Through enjoyment for food they will achieve a basic level in food and hygiene. Make a positive contribution: the cooking sessions will not just benefit those that actively take part in the cooking but also to those that want to enjoy the food. The contribution will be to the club and to the other members. Achieve economic well-being: giving young people the chance to take part in a project that they can achieve a qualification at the end of it. SEYC is a grassroots charity that works in some of the toughest neighbourhoods in South West London. We work with children, young people & their families; as well as the wider community. We provide positive role models & activities; which broadens horizons, builds self-esteem & resilience which restores hope.
