From a birthday gift for a patient who has no family to cutting edge technology for the Neonatal, Cardiology and Breast Care Units, the Frimley Health Charity exists to bring services & equipment beyond those which the NHS can provide. The store is looking forward to supporting the following exciting projects... Breast Care Appeal - helping to raise £750,000 for a new 3D mammography machine & dedicated breast care unit at Frimley Park Hospital Maternity Ward - providing reclining chairs for dads so they can stay in on the postnatal ward at night with their partners. Currently the only chairs available are very upright uncomfortable chairs and the cost of a new chair is around £726. Stroke Unit - looking to provide advanced stethoscopes which connect to Bluetooth to assist with teaching heart / lung sounds to the nurses on the ward. These items will cost several hundred pounds. We also need some new special seating. Our stroke patients often have head and trunk weakness which means they are unable to sit in standard chairs. Research shows that early mobilisation in stroke patients helps prevent chest infections and DVTs but also facilitates early rehab which has been shown to help decrease mortality. Early mobilisation includes sitting out of bed and therefore it is very important that we provide these patients with appropriate seating. The chairs we use meet the postural needs of our patients, meet infection control requirements and have inbuilt pressure relieving properties. The cost of the chairs is about £2500 per chair. Physiotherapy Unit - providing special exercise bikes to help with rehabilitation of patients – especially stroke / accident victims. These are seated bikes which are strong and extra stable and allow patients of all abilities to exercise. The stroke unit currently have one, but with 42 patients and a team of 7 physios treating patients through the day, the exercise bike is in high demand. The cost for such a bike is approx £4,500 due much to its portability (it can be taken to the patient on the ward).
