Bournemouth Recycle is a community Facebook group where we work to save items from landfill, while supporting the local community. Many thousands of items are saved from potential landfill and passed onto other people for re-use. We do not charge for our services. The group was founded in 2020 by Sharon Valler and has over 30,000 local members. Bournemouth Recycle is run by an admin team of 60 local volunteers, covering our group, food surplus scheme and charity collection programme. As well as recycling (around 300 posts per day), we collect and distribute food surplus, three times per week, within our local community and offer additional support to NHS staff in the form of food parcels. We also run a monthly charity appeal, collecting items for local organisations, through our drop off points throughout the area. We are a not for profit social supermarket based in West Moors who provide support to over 1600 households in our community. We tackle food insecurity, social isolation and the environmental impact of food waste in our area. We source our products from surplus redistribution companies and charities, we save end of day goods from supermarkets and local businesses; We have an allotment to grow our own produce, promote home growing and accept donated surplus fruit and veg grown locally too. We also purchase products like freezer goods to ensure our service users have a wide selection of food and goods available to them at every visit. We operate on a membership basis to be able to monitor user trends and create a unified community feel for our service users. Our Larder is set up like any other 'shop' ensuring all service users have dignified access to a wide selection of food and household products. We do not pre allocate goods, our members choose what they like and will use which helps minimise further waste. Members visit once per week, there is a £7 visit fee to be paid when accessing Castleman Community Larder. We use this £7 to contribute towards the running costs like rent (£800pcm). We also use this to purchase any food that we cannot source from end of day, local business or in our regular collections. Our members take home UNLIMITED fruit, veg and bread. We promote healthy eating and encourage our members to use vegetables in meals as often as possible. 3 RED ITEMS - Items from the Fridge/Freezer like family size packs of minced beef, fresh meat and cheese, butter etc And 12 YELLOW items which consist of staple foods, tins, jars, cereal, pasta and household / toiletries like toilet roll, cleaning products, nappies etc Our priorities are focused on saving waste in our community and giving all of our service users a friendly, dognified and welcoming environment when they choose to visit us.

Creating community resilience is our mission and passion. We support the local and regional community, whether through financial, social or practical means. We believe that a community and a person thrives when connected, supported and cared for. Our support services include: a community larder and food bank, baby, pet, and hygiene bank, benefits and welfare advice service, free community café and stay and play sessions, befriending, shopping for housebound/disabled, a uk first and only medicine bank, and numerous community events for all such as our Easter and Christmas trails. Our wonderful pool of just under 100 dedicated volunteers enable our community to thrive and many friendships and support networks to form.
