Braunstone Town Community Fridge is a new project set up, with the support of the Local Council, to reduce food waste whilst bringing the community together during difficult times. The Community Fridge is looking for cupboard essentials such as tinned items, eggs, fruit and veg, frozen items and non-perishable products for the time being, whilst looking into expanding into meat, fish and poultry. As well as food items, toiletries, pet food and day to day household items are also being accepted. The surplus items will be available for the everyone in the community to access, free of charge and no referral is needed. The fridge will launch on Tuesday 2 May between 2pm and 3.30pm. These opening hours will be the same moving forward every Tuesday. As well as The Green Space (LE3 2PS) being a base for the Community Fridge, there are also other activities and events which you can join in with or for information you can visit their website. We are a Community Fridge based in Glen Parva, helping the local Community to decrease food waste. The project is ran by Glen Parva Parish Council and supported by a dedicated team of volunteers. The Fridge is open weekly on Tuesday afternoons between 2.30pm - 4pm. The fridge is open to all, free to access, with no referrals required. Since opening in April 2025, we have saved nearly two tonnes of produce from landfill, and welcomed nearly 3,000 visitors. We are always seeking volunteers to help us embed the Community Fridge within the local community. Various roles are available, including drivers to collect donations, and volunteers to manage the running of the fridge. All necessary training will be provided.
