M&S Flowerdown Weston-Super-Mare

As part of the Community Fridge Network, Fridge of Free Stuff is in the centre of Weston-Super-Mare and has saved over 27 tonnes of CO2e so far. The primary purpose is to reduce food waste by providing a location which enables retail business, restaurants and supermarkets to share surplus food that is edible and would otherwise go to waste through incineration or landfill. The fridge network is designed to combat the effects of climate change. The project receives ongoing funding from North Somerset Council, Weston Town Council and some grants and is based within the Sovereign Centre. The project is largely volunteer-led and supported by a volunteer rota but overseen by Weston Town Council, who co-ordinate the volunteers, retail supplies and monitor it's success. The other partner agencies include the For All Healthy Living Company and Weston Helping People who contribute, in kind, resources such as volunteering processes, media support and legal holding of licence to occupy.

The Nailsea Community Group was set up in March 2020 in response to the Covid crisis. Since then the group has gone from strength to strength and has evolved from a Covid-response team to a real Community Group that highlights what an amazing community we have in Nailsea. Community Larder - this has been established to stop food from going to waste and is supported by local shops, both independently and through the charities FareShare, Neighbourly, and FoodShare. It has an average of 55 visits a day and is open to all residents and has no impact on our Foodbank stock. #feedbelliesnotbins Community Food Club - this is open to those who receive benefits. Membership costs £1 per household and entitles members to a weekly bag of store-cupboard items worth over £10 for £3.50. End Holiday Hunger - When schools are not running we are endeavouring to provide food for every child in Nailsea who receives Free School Meals in term time. Nailsea Active - this initiative continues to inspire people to stay mentally and physically active and to make the most of our amazing local facilities. We are very proud to live in Nailsea and would not be able to provide the above without every volunteer along with every resident, business, and organisation that has helped us along the way. YMCA Dulverton Group offer a range of services and support to the communities we serve in Weston-super-Mare, Bridgwater and West Somerset. Young people are at our core. We believe in young people and we believe in creating transformational communities in which they can truly belong, contribute and thrive. YMCA Dulverton Group facilities in Weston are situated opposite Grove Park on Bristol Road Lower, less than a minutes’ walk from the Playhouse Theatre. Offering a hub for services and provision for the community these include temporary emergency accommodation for young people, a drop-in Youth Café 6 days a week, shared and studio flat accommodation for young people, community meeting place, a meeting and training room. This project aim is to provide meals for people in need when they experiencing crisis in their lives. Crisis such as being homeless, benefit cuts, living independently without family support and on a low income.
