The foodbank helps individuals and families in crisis through the provision of emergency food supplies. The circumstances surrounding a crisis are unique to every individual, so we partner with frontline care professionals, such as health visitors, social workers and other community-based support workers, who are able to identify and refer people facing hunger to the foodbank. As well as receiving nutritionally-balanced 3 day food parcels, people are welcomed with a cup of tea, listened to and signposted to agencies that are able to help resolve the underlying cause of the problem. Our foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s UK foodbank network, which last year collected more than 10,000 tonnes of food and gave over 1,084,604 three days’ food supplies to people in crisis of which over 396,000 went to children. A large proportion of this food came from Harvest collections throughout the UK, each providing for their local foodbank. Can you help? "We serve between 250 and 300 meals each day but this can be as many as 350 on the coldest days in winter. The charity's mission is to provide a caring and safe environment for the poor, the marginalised and those who suffer from isolation or are in any kind of physical or emotional need in our community. The charity is financed by annual funding from The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, other small grant-giving trusts, local businesses, churches and schools and private benefactors. Additional finance is provided by fundraising events organised by our board of trustees, staff and wonderful volunteers. The ongoing need for the advice support and hope offered by Acton Homeless Concern is a sad indictment of the continuing high levels of homelessness and poverty in London in 2017.

The Community Outreach Team is based in Edmonton, North London. We reach over 1800 families from 4 schools. Our families’ experience financial hardship this can also impact other areas of their lives including their health. To alleviate some of these pressure on our families we provide support around, health and wellbeing, pathways to employment, supporting your child with their learning as well as volunteering opportunities. 2020 has posed additional pressure and restrictions on our families, making basic living standards difficult to maintain. As a team we have adapted to support those in need by establishing a food and clothing bank, provided reading books and games for children, signposted parents to local soup kitchen and provided cooked meals during the school holidays as well as food drops to those families self-isolating. We believe Equity means that each child receives what they need to develop to their full academic and social potential. The work our team carries out tries to reduce some of the pressure placed on families and bring smiles to faces. We are asking for donation for our families of Food (fresh and dried), toiletries, cleaning products, clothing, baby items, books and games and educational resources such as pencil cases, calculators. We are happy to collect items from within the 5 mile radius of Edmonton.
