It costs £20 an hour to cover all the costs of ensuring a Pilgrims nurse can provide care where it’s needed – on the ward, in the day hospices, in a patient’s own home, in care homes or at a community outreach group. Individuals and businesses can pay for one hour, one day, one week or even one month by making either a one-off donation or setting up a standing order to make regular contributions. It already costs £14 million a year to provide all of the charity’s services across east Kent and this figure will only rise as more people require our specialist care.

Every day, people go hungry in the UK for all kinds of reasons, from changes and delays in the benefits system to redundancy to receiving an unexpectedly large bill for a major repair. A simple box of food makes a big difference, with foodbanks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. Deal Foodbank relies on the support of local people, businesses and communities to help alleviate poverty and hunger in our community. Food donations Non-perishable in-date food is donated by the public at places across the local community, such as schools,churches and businesses, as well as supermarket collection points. It is then sorted and packed into boxes by volunteers, ready to be given to people in need. Food vouchers Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, schools and social workers identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. They can exchange this voucher for a foodbank parcel of three days’ nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food. The help we give… Our foodbanks offers a lot more than food. Our volunteers offer a listening ear to clients over a warm drink, and signpost people to other charities and agencies who can help resolve the underlying cause of the crisis. There are many ways to help The Trussell Trust as a volunteer from helping at collection points, to stock-taking and audits, to helping us refurbish our premises. We can continue supporting people in crisis thanks to passionate people giving their time to help their hungry neighbours. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the William Harvey Hospital is a specialist intensive care unit with 25 cots. They provide intensive care for newborn babies from across the region including caring for babies that are born too soon or too small, as well as more specialist nursing for full term babies with problems at birth. In 2017 East Kent Hospitals Charity launched the Tiny Toes fund to support East Kent's tiniest newcomers and their families. We have been able to use the charitable donations where they are most needed, including: State-of-the-art equipment or additional equipment not available through normal NHS funding. Providing the best possible environment for patients, parents, staff and visitors. Cool bags for mums to transport expressed breast milk to the Unit. Furnishing the brand new parent flats, where parents can stay to be near their baby. The Tiny Toes fund helps the hospital to purchases items and make changes to enhance the patient experience.
