Cross Gates and District Good Neighbours’ Scheme CIO works with and for older people to reduce loneliness and isolation, support independence, promote healthy lifestyles and try new things. Our service users are very active participants in our work. They contribute ideas, skills, time, goods and money, as well as constant encouragement and feedback. Our volunteer team, which includes our trustees, give a generous level of commitment and hands on service to the scheme, without which many of our activities could not run. St George's Crypt is a charity based in the centre of Leeds. We offer practical care and support for homeless and disadvantaged people from the Leeds and West Yorkshire area. Our charity runs a drop in service for up to 100 homeless, disadvantaged or lonely people every day. We serve three meals a day - breakfast and tea for the residents (up to 37 per day) and lunch for up to 100. What's more, we run two hostels for residents with a history of alcohol addiction - there are 28 people in these two hostels. Helping people to develop their skills and open new doors for themselves is very important to us. In our lively kitchen, our former clients can gain on the job training. Plus, we work in partnership with local prisons to train people on ROTL or ex-offenders. We also run a full programme of training and engagement so that our clients develop key skills and self-confidence. Our three charity shops and two cafes in Leeds bring even more fantastic opportunities for our trainees to develop employability skills. These learning experiences empower people to become more independent and contribute to their heightened feeling of self-belief. We work strategically with lots of different partners in both the public and the corporate sectors. We also work alongside the Leeds Food Aid Network and the Trussell Trust to prepare and distribute food parcels for needy people.
