Second Helpings Stamford

We collect surplus food including food which has reached its best before and use by date from suppliers. Using this food, we prepare and serve nourishing meals in our Pay As You Feel Café at Barn Hill Methodist Church every Saturdays 12pm-1.30pm alongside our Pantry and Community Fridge. Inspired by Adam Smith's 'Real Junk Food Café' in Leeds and frustrated at the amount of good food wasted whilst people go hungry, Second Helpings Stamford opened in October 2015 as a Church and Community Project. We take perfectly edible raw materials from supermarkets, farms and personal supporters in and around Stamford that would otherwise go to waste. This produce is available to the community daily from the Pantry and the Community Fridge, and in delicious, wholesome meals in the Saturday Café where we serve an average of 70 people each week. We are staffed by volunteers and all our food is available on a pay-as-you-feel basis. Stamford Methodist Church is a busy, family oriented church close to the town centre. Committed to inclusivity and social outreach the premises are used by a wide variety of groups from the congregation and the local community.

West Berks Foodbank exists to ensure that no one in our community faces hunger alone. We provide emergency food parcels and compassionate support to local people in crisis across West Berkshire, responding with dignity, care, and practical help when it’s needed most. Our work is powered by a dedicated network of volunteers, referral partners, and community organisations who help identify need early and connect people with the right support. Alongside supplying nutritionally balanced food parcels, we walk alongside individuals and families to help them navigate the challenges they are facing. Through tailored advice, signposting, and wider support services, we aim to address the underlying causes of hardship—empowering people to rebuild stability, confidence, and hope for the future. Guided by our mission of Relieving Hunger, Restoring Dignity, and Reviving Hope, we are committed to creating a community where everyone has the resources and resilience they need to thrive.

MADE@Kerv
Kerv is committed to harnessing the power of technology for the good of our people, our customers, our society and our planet. The MADE@Kerv campaign is our way of empowering Kervers to connect with the community and support causes that are close to their hearts. As part of our Sustainability Manifesto, we’ve pledged 500 volunteering days annually to drive meaningful change. Through this pilot program, we aim to dedicate 50 of those days, offering our people a unique and fulfilling experience to give back during their work hours. By engaging our people, supporting communities, and contributing to a healthier planet, we’re taking steps to make a meaningful difference together. This campaign is an invitation to Make A Difference Everyday at Kerv.
