Foodsave Hemyock is a is community fridge and freezer covering Hemyock, Clayhidon and the surrounding areas in Mid Devon. We work to ensure no useable food is put to waste within our local community, ensuring that those around us receive high-quality, free food without the stigma of referrals, quotas or financial questionnaires. Since opening in January 2023, we have grown to support nearly a hundred households across the village every week. We operate as a branch of Foodsave CIC, a not-for-profit food redistribution service operating community food parcel services, community larders and community fridges and freezers across the South West. Foodsave is one of the largest redistributors of surplus food outside of major cities in the South West, facilitating communities to create food waste reduction schemes tailored to their communities. St. George's Community Fridge, Wilton, Taunton

Taunton, UK

The Community Fridge exists to ensure that less food is wasted and becomes part of landfill. This is done by food outlets donating what would otherwise be thrown away to people who collect that food and take it to a Community Fridge (ours being in the church hall car park in a purpose-built shed.) We also accept donations from individuals who are able to donate surplus produce from their gardens or allotments. They must stick to the guidelines of what can and cannot be donated. The Community Fridge is advertised on Facebook, both on our own Community Fridge page and on the "Wilton & Sherford Community" page, in the local church community and by word of mouth and then anyone can come to collect five items of food from there. We are NOT a Food Bank where people need to be referred to use it. Anyone can come along and take a five items of food . This may well reach people in need but equally the purpose of the Community Fridge is simply to avoid waste. There is no stigma attached to using a Community Fridge
