At Dream Earth Project, our mission is to create a sustainable and equitable food system that prioritizes the reduction of food waste and the redistribution of surplus food to those in need. We strive to reduce the environmental impact of food waste by implementing composting and other sustainable solutions that return nutrients to the earth and promote healthy soil. Through community engagement and education, we aim to empower individuals to take action towards reducing food waste and building a more sustainable future. We recognize the interconnectedness of environmental and social issues and seek to promote holistic solutions that improve both the health of our planet and the wellbeing of our communities. At Dream Earth Project, we believe that every individual has a role to play in creating a more sustainable future, and we are committed to working together towards that vision. The Dream Earth Project (DEP) focuses on sustainable solutions for food surplus generated by local businesses in North and Northwest London and surrounding areas. The project has both environmental and social aspects, with the aim of preventing food waste and channeling food surplus to communities in need. DEP also aims to educate the wider public, including schools and businesses, about the issue of food waste. In addition to supporting communities, DEP aims to develop processes that help local authorities and supermarkets divert food waste from landfills to more environmentally friendly methods such as composting and producing substrates to grow mushrooms. The project intends to research and utilize alternative food waste solutions and create training materials for individuals and businesses to implement on a larger scale. DEP also plans to create a community garden in the future to teach people of all ages about the world of plants and how gardening can benefit mental wellbeing and strengthen people's commitment to the environmental cause. Currently, DEP provides food for a stall in Stanmore and a warehouse in Watford Wolsey Business Park, free open to everyone. The project also delivers food to those with limited means of transport and mobility problems. With the help of 60 dedicated volunteers DEP works directly with communities to support local schools, foodbanks, churches, mosques, and other causes. The London Community Aid Network (London CAN) London CAN is a grassroots, volunteer-led initiative committed to supporting individuals and families facing hardship across the city. Our mission is to build a more compassionate and inclusive London by providing practical support, promoting community solidarity, and responding to the urgent needs of vulnerable populations. At the heart of our work is the belief that everyone deserves dignity, respect, and access to basic essentials—regardless of their background or circumstances. Food Distribution for Communities in Need One of our core programmes focuses on tackling food insecurity among low-income and marginalised communities. Every week, London CAN works with local partners, food banks, and volunteers to collect, prepare, and distribute fresh, nutritious meals and food parcels to those most in need—including rough sleepers, refugees, families in crisis, and elderly residents on low incomes. We understand that hunger is more than a lack of food—it’s a symptom of broader social inequality. That’s why our food support is designed not only to feed but to uplift. We offer culturally appropriate meals where possible, ensure our services are welcoming and respectful, and connect people with additional resources and support when needed.We are a newly established community initiative focused on providing free food support to individuals and families facing hardship. Operating via a mobile distribution system, we temporarily store food at a residential address before delivery. Our work is rooted in partnerships with local community groups, faith organisations, and schools who help us identify those most in need. A referral system through trusted local partners will be introduced to ensure support is accessible and well-directed. At this early stage, our sole focus is on distributing food parcels. As we grow and secure more resources, we hope to expand our services to include hygiene packs, signposting to additional support, and community outreach events. All services are provided completely free of charge. We are currently applying to join food surplus networks and aim to establish relationships with local supermarkets and food retailers as our operations develop. While we have not yet received local press coverage or launched our social media activity, we plan to actively engage the community and share updates once our food distribution begins. We are also in the process of building relationships with local organisations and welcome future collaborations.
