House is a CQC rated ‘Outstanding’ care home for the Armed Forces community and their families - we're privileged to look after those who have given so much to our country. In addition, we have a Community Hub, Café, Men's Shed and Day Club facility which are open to the whole community. At Galanos House, we support over 100 residents, employ more than 250 colleagues, and are supported by a large and active volunteer team. With this scale comes both responsibility and opportunity to use food surplus in a meaningful, ethical and sustainable way. Any food surplus generated can be used safely within the main kitchen on the day that it is collected supporting: Resident meals Resident cooking experiences and food-based activities, which promote independence, wellbeing, memory-making and enjoyment Engagement activities that enhance quality of life, particularly for residents living with dementia. Beyond resident use, Galanos House operates 24 hours a day, with carers working across day and night shifts. Many colleagues are carers themselves, often balancing demanding roles at work and at home. Where appropriate and in line with food safety guidance, surplus food can be shared among colleagues, helping to: Reduce food waste Support staff wellbeing and household budgets Demonstrate appreciation for a workforce delivering round-the-clock care In addition, our volunteer community plays a vital role in the life of the care home. Responsible use of surplus food can also support volunteer engagement, helping people feel welcomed, valued and part of the wider Galanos House community. Sustainability is a key priority for us. Through our RBL Green Team, we actively consider the environmental impact of our operations and are conscious of climate responsibility. We are a voluntary run organisation with a team of 65 dedicated volunteers who collectively donate over 345 hours of support each week. Our Food Larders are a social supermarket, stocked with donated food and food purchased with monies raised through fundraising initiatives, grant funding and West Northamptonshire Council. The Rural Community Larder currently supports 300 individuals from 27 local villages. Our Larders work with a points system. £10.00 yearly membership and then a weekly donation of either £5.00 which could equate to a £35.00 supermarket shop or £10.00 could be equal to that of a £55.00 supermarket shop. Donations are used to purchase more food. We are a non profit organisation and no one is paid a salary. All fruit, vegetables and bread are provided free. We also provide Food Parcels through our Food Bank, support local schools with breakfast boxes, after school club and holiday parcels. We also deliver weekly Food Parcels to the elderly and infirm in our local area We also support the Good Neighbours and Welcome Spaces by providing weekly ready meals via these schemes. In addition to providing food we also offer free sanitary products supported by Bloody Good Period, free Data Packs which is supported through Good Thing Foundation, Emergency Starter Packs through Baby Basic and a range of expert services including Debt Management, Housing Support, Benefits Advice and Mental Health Support.

Looprun is a response division and part of an independent social enterprise called Glass Mill Social Enterprise C.I.C. This is more than food and is part of a platform called RSBA1 (Response, Sustain, Build, Achieve). A free supportive services platform to help people get back on their feet. With up to 94% success rate and seeing once those receiving free Looprun response bags to returning to stores as shoppers with baskets full. These are the happy stories created when all come together to do good for good. Service users are signposted to Looprun mostly from referrals including professionals in social and healthcare. Looprun provides free non perishables, perishable food, toiletries, and clothing to people facing a challenge. Whatever you can do is turned into a grateful donation to a neighbour in need. As everything given and everybody counts. No food is banked providing a direct in and out service. We believe if the food is stored then a person in need is not getting any food, hence we provide an instant response and instant impact service. Looprun food donations can include fresh fruit, vegetables, bakery items and non perishables. Looprun has access to professional volunteers who carry out a confidential support service to people in need. From homeless shelters, hostels, sheltered housing, care homes and schools. This is a non voucher, free and confidential service. This means Looprun can reach more people in need with your food donations. Therefore we need your help to ensure we can supply the demand in this crisis. Anyone that receives a Looprun bag of essential food items is sustained thus creating a loop cycle. We, therefore, are a platform for a voice to be heard in the community and share life changing stories. It would be great to have more partners become part of these stories in your local community.
