At the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh we provide specialist care for local people living with a terminal illness and support for their families completely free. As well as inpatient services we also have a Day Therapy Unit and a team of nurses who provide care for patients in their own homes across the Lothians.

We are creating a new sensory garden with the community garden. We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping dig up the new plant beds. A Description of the design: There will be a twisting path which will be in the long-term a tapestry lawn- using creeping thyme, lawn camomile, clover etc- to add to the sensory element as you walk along. The rest of the grass will be kept a bit longer, again adding to the sensory element. There will be an enclosed silent space where someone can get some quiet. This is planned to be enclosed by clump forming bamboo. The garden edges will be edged with thyme, lavender or rosemary. There will be plant beds focusing on different senses. We have already bought roses for the scented bed. It is a complicated site as the plants needed vary from full shade to sun.

The National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) Essex is one of five rehoming centres in current operation as part of the NAWT, a charity that has been caring for animals in need for over 50 years. The Essex centre is based in Little Clacton, and since 1984 has been a vital lifeline to thousands of homeless dogs and cats under its original name of Clacton Animal Aid, before being entrusted into the care of the National Animal Welfare Trust in 2011. The NAWT Clacton alone sees around 300 dogs and cats rescued and then happily adopted per year and helps countless more owners and their animals annually. At NAWT, our main objective is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome homeless and abandoned animals in need. However, it is our mission to promote responsible pet ownership by helping pets and pet owners within our community with support, education and advice, so that more owners and their pets can stay together. In cases where this is not possible and animals are surrendered into rescue, our resident dogs and cats are provided with any appropriate veterinary care needed, including neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping, as well as behavioural rehabilitation and loving care, before they can go on to be rehomed.
