North Belfast Women's Initiative And Support Project
Belfast, UK
North Belfast Women's Initiative and Support Project (NB WISP) is a cross-community charitable organisation, based in the Upper Ardoyne area of North Belfast. Our organisation seeks to improve the lives of the women in our community and their families, with an emphasis on social inclusion and betterment of physical and mental health. * Our core group of participants is our ever-expanding women's group, which meets at least weekly and has members ranging from late teenage years to mid-eighties. We frequently deliver or source both accredited and leisure training for these women, ranging from carpentry and horticulture, to healthy eating and mental health first aid. *We run an annual family-focused summer scheme, where the community participates in day drips in their family units, which helps to build and strengthen relationships within the community. This same group then meets for a Christmas outing each year to visit Santa. *We run an annual toy and food drive at Christmas, to support families who are struggling financially and help them provide for their children at Christmas. * We deliver year-round "Seed-To-Plate" training in local primary schools, equipping schools with the supplies and knowledge to grow their own produce and helping the children to create and cook recipes using the produce they have grown. This is also rolled out across the wider North Belfast community, as an OCN accredited Gardening and Horticulture programme. This programme not only upskills members of the local community, but provides knowledgeable volunteers for the schools that host the programme. * We offer drop in employability support with a dedicated worker for young people who are considered NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) and signpost to housing/benefits advisors, local representatives, smoking cessation support and external mental health support workers *We have a state-of-the-art sensory room and garden and offer play-based therapy for children and holistic therapies for adults.
