The Beautiful Minds - Embracing Ageing

Manchester, UK

The Beautiful Minds – Embracing Ageing is a community-based interest group providing emotional support to elderly people (aged 60 and over); who are lonely and looking to connect or network with others within the community. Our purpose is to improve the lives of older people in the North Manchester community. We want to ensure older people embrace ageing and feel valued, listened to, supported, confident and enabled to enjoy quality of life. Our mission is - To ensure older people embrace ageing and feel valued, listened to, supported, confident and enabled to enjoy quality of life. - To empower all local older people to live healthy, happy and independent lives. - To combat loneliness and social isolation - To provide an inclusive service that adapts to the needs of our local community, and values the older people. Our strategic focus is to: - Be the go-to organisation for older people in North Manchester and its environs and be the ones they and their families trust to support them through their challenges and to embrace later life. - Invest in new opportunities for older people to stay active both in person and virtually. - Focus on reaching the most isolated older people, ensuring they are active and well looked after in old age. - Increase opportunities to formally seek the views of older people and value them - Invest in maintaining our high-quality, independent advice offer and create a 24-hour helpline where older people can speak to someone independently and confidently. Some of our projects include - coffee morning where seniors gather together to chat and network with each-other regularly - walking together (also known as ‘Seniors on the Move’) this keep them active and increase their body metabolism and mental health - Game time: this session focuses on seniors exploring different board games and puzzles that will keep their brain active and mental capacity active - All green sessions for the seniors: This is where we educate seniors on different types of greens and best time to take them. We also give out green fruits and veggies to the senior to take home. Other activities we are looking to kickstart as soon as possible if we have resources for it: - Bus tour for the seniors where they will be on a bus and your round the beautiful city of Manchester having nice time together - Foodbank: every month the seniors get to have food and essential household items to take home. - Massage session where the seniors will have light massage such as head, neck and shoulder massage after a walk session. - Healthy habit where a health coach will come and speak to seniors on healthy living, healthy eating and maintaining healthy lifestyle. - Dance class: this is another session to keep the seniors active and happy. We will provide bottle of water and refreshments for each session to keep them refreshed after the dance class.
