ALDI STAINES

Our aim is to save food from landfill and support families in food poverty. We currently pick up food from a local bakery and Tesco and Aldi which we give to the community or freeze to make meals later for functions we have in the church. ie soup for the summer cafe. This is a free service providing a social relaxing space for people to come and have coffee, cakes , and lunch of soup and rolls. OUR SOCIAL IMPACT 2026 We are a local church that seeks to help people in the community by supporting them in various groups such as toddler groups and cooking meals for a mental health group ( some of these folk come from as far as from elephant and castle London) as well as supporting older people. The social impact has been wider than the immediate church family. We now have people from the church taking food bags to neighbours in need and large families. We have also been able to help at least 4 families who are in food poverty. At least 200 + people benefit from the food pickups over the week. At Christmas we distribute hampers to people we have had contact with throughout the year. The contacts come through BESOM and we provide roughly 16 hampers each year. The Toddler together leader will identify Young mums needing extra help and support Individuals in the church will identify neighbours and take food parcels as required as do the elders. The food we pick up would be redistributed to help local families in our Toddler group, the older peoples group and weekly to cook for the mental health group as well as giving to church families in need. We now donate surplus bread and other items that we cannot use to the local day Centre for older people for which they are very grateful. The attendance here is 150 people plus who benefit either from the food directly or indirectly through the meals cooked. We operate from the church premises which has a large church hall. During the summer break we hold a weekly coffee brunch that anyone can attend. In the fullness of time we hope to extend the food redistribution into a community fridge with a cafe. it was a privilege to receive a community grant from neighbourly via Sainsbury. the money will be used to support vulnerable families in our church community

To relieve financial hardship and to promote and preserve good health amongst the general public in stanwell and surrounding area by providing fund, food,goods and services of any kind as deemed appropriate by the trustees.

One of our church mission is to look after our community and environment. Caring for our community is an integral part of what we do at St John’s through providing free initiatives: - debt advice and support to people in our community - free English language classes - a community cafe to provide free hot meals - a twice monthly family cafe with free hot meals - a community larder to reduce food waste - developing a community raised beds to grow herbs and produce - a repair cafe run 3-4 times a year - a community forest where we planted about 700 trees to help biodiversity and humans interact - litter picking group that is run twice a month to reduce the amount of litter in our local town and surrounding areas - a "Shed" to help someone do their own upcycling and repairs - infant feeding clinic for mothers to have support - PlayTime for children 3-8 years old - youth club for teenage children We are also partners with Besom a charity that supports vulnerable people; and Care in Egham that supports elderly, the sick and the disabled. Finally we are committed to move towards being a low carbon, zero waste, nature loving church. We are directing efforts to be Carbon Zero by 2030 and zero waste by 2025 and are continually seeking ways to improving our grounds to be a haven to wildlife in suburbia.
